India 1914(c) 1/2 rupee
This specimen was lot 2679 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, AR 1/2 rupee, 1914(c), lustrous, pleasant appearance, NGC graded MS64, ex The 1914 Collection." This half rupee was struck at the Calcutta mint at the beginning of World War One. It was never minted in the immense numbers of the George V rupees but it is not rare, being struck steadily 1912-30, 1933-36. This date has a low mintage but is awarded little premium. The minting of rupees effectively ceased after 1922. Bombay mint half rupees have a dot at the bottom of the reverse while the Calcutta half rupees have no mark.
Recorded mintage: 1,400,000 plus prooflike restrikes.
Specification: 5.83 g, 0.917 fine silver, .172 troy oz ASW, 24 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-522, S&W-8.71.
