Künker sale 293, lot 696

This specimen was lot 696 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €220 (about US$297 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler (12 Mariengroschen) 1752, Zellerfeld. Vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg, George II, 1727-60, one third thaler (12 mariengroschen) of 1752, Zellerfeld mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1737-60 and is common. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
