Hannover 1726-EPH 1/6 thaler KM-170
This specimen was lot 73284 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 1/6 Taler (6 Mariengroschen), 1726-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. Issued in the penultimate year in the reign of Georg--more famous in his larger role of sovereign of the United Kingdom--this near-Mint specimen presents a great, wholesome overall appearance. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The six mariengroschen was terminated after 1715. This one-sixth thaler, which superseded it, is listed for 1726 only. For 1726, there is also KM 144 (St. Andrew reverse) and KM 108 (bust obverse). Mintmaster EPH appears for 1723-30.
