Hannover 1724-EPH 1/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 73283 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1724-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS EF-45. Emanating from the waning years in the reign of Georg Ludwig, this evenly handled and pleasingly toned minor presents a high level of charm and originality. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The 12 mariengroschen was terminated after 1715. This one-third thaler, which superseded it, is listed for 1723-27. Mintmaster EPH appears for 1723-30.
