Germany 1924-A 50 rentenpfennig
This specimen was lot 70869 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. 50 Pfennig, 1924-A. Berlin Mint. PCGS MS-65. A bright and brilliant Gem with rich, brassy golden color and exceptionally well struck devices. Among the finest on the marketplace, it is exceptionally strong for the grade and perfect for those who value eye appeal." The rentenmark was used 1923-25, the reichsmark was used 1924-39. They overlapped in 1924, with the fifty pfennig struck using both names. Confusingly, the same module was used for both issues. The auctioneers incorrectly catalogued this as a scarce reichspfennig (KM 41); it is actually the more common rentenpfennig.
Recorded mintage: 801,000 of KM 41 + 117,365,000 of KM 34.
Specification: aluminum bronze.
Catalog reference: KM 34.
