The first specimen was lot 4400 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,100 (about US$2,830 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WEIMARER REPUBLIK, 50 Reichspfennig 1924, A. In US-Plastikholder der PCGS mit der Bewertung PR 66. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Polierte Platte. (Germany, Weimar republic, fifty pfennig of 1924, in PCGS PR-66 holder. Scarce in this quality, proof.)"

The second specimen was lot 20370 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. 50 Reichspfennig, 1924-A. PCGS PROOF-65 Secure Holder. RARE type. Tied with three other examples at this numeric grade with only one other example certified finer. Gorgeous sky-blue tone coupled with exceptional strike details and undisturbed surfaces." This type is recorded for 1924-25 but must not have been released for circulation as all six dates are very rare. A smaller nickel type of 1927-38 is relatively common.

Recorded mintage: 801,000 plus proofs.

Specification: aluminum bronze.
