Germany 1925-A rentenpfennig
This specimen was lot 6605 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,505 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WEIMARER REPUBLIK. 1 Rentenpfennig 1925, A. Fehlprägung infolge falscher Stempelkoppelung. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, Weimar Republic, one pfennig of 1925, muled dies. Very rare, very fine.)"
The rentenmark and its subdivision the rentenpfennig were used 1923-24. In 1925, the Berlin mint was supposed to strike reichspfennig (KM 37) but apparently muled the 1925 reverse from a leftover rentenpfennig obverse of 1923-24. The weight, composition and diameter was the same for both types. The Berlin mint struck 40,925,000 reichspfennig correctly and it is common.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.
Specification: 2 g, bronze.
