France 1790-B ecu
This specimen was lot 71005 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $268.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. Ecu, 1790-B. Rouen Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Quite sharply struck, this crown displays some minor cleaning and very little actual wear. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Lepczyk in 1977 for $145). Ex George Sobin Collection (Joseph Lepczyk - 3/1977) Lot # 207." This écu au buste habillé was struck at the Rouen mint 1775-91. This is a better date and the Rouen mint is a scarce mint; this and the 1789-B are the only dates not very rare.
Recorded mintage: 138,888, a better date[2].
Specification: silver, 11 deniers (.917 fine), 8.3 pieces to the mark (29.488 g), face value 6 livres, 39 mm diameter. Engraved by Benjamin Duvivier; this specimen 29,34 g.
