Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71019

This specimen was lot 71019 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. Ecu, 1790-K. Bordeaux Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS AU-55. A pleasingly toned specimen, this enchanting crown stands as the finer of just three observed in the PCGS census. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from New York Sale in 2009 for $1,495). Ex: New York Sale XX (1/2009) Lot # 748." This type was struck in large quantities 1774-92 at all the mints. Bordeaux is listed for 1775-85, 1787-91 and many dates are common. This one is slightly scarce.

Specification: 29.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39-42 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM.
