This specimen was part of lot 71282 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $268.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. Septet of 1/2 Sols (7 Pieces), 1789-91. Louis XVI. Grade Range: FINE to ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. 1) 1789-N, Montpellier. EXTREMELY FINE. 2) 1790-N, Montpellier. EXTREMELY FINE. Environmental Damage. 3) 1790-T, Nantes. FINE. 4) 1791-H, La Rochelle. 7.09 g. Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. 5) 1791-MA, Marseille. 6.22 g. FINE. Ex: H. D. Gibbs Collection. 6) 1791-W, Lille. 6.35 g. Second semester. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. Ex: H. D. Gibbs Collection. 7) 1791-W, Lille. 6.34 g. Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." Altho this type was struck in considerable numbers 1777-91, the only dates known from the Nantes mint are 1784-91. Its face value was 6 deniers or one half of a sol and was not demonetized in France until 1852.

Recorded mintage: very few[2].

Specification: 6.12 g, copper, 24-25 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Benjamin Duvivier. This specimen is 4.99 g.
