This specimen was lot 43052 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. 1/2 Sol, 1789-R. Orléans Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS MS-65 Brown. Presenting absolutely stunning quality, this undisputed Gem glistens with tantalizing lustrous brilliance and rich brown coloring across both sides. The single finest example of the date and mint in the PCGS census. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Weil in 1988 for $131). Ex: Alain Weil (12/1988) Lot # 1." Altho this type was struck in considerable numbers 1777-91, this is the only date from the Orléans mint. Its face value was 6 deniers or one half of a sol and was not demonetized in France until 1852.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 6.12 g, copper, 24-25 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Benjamin Duvivier.
