A scarce louis d'or au buste nu from the Lyon mint. The years 1786-87 are common as the mints melted down and reminted old tenor gold, but the later dates (1788-92) are much scarcer. This specimen was lot 4114 in Stack's Golden Horn sale (New York, January 2009). The catalog description noted, "FRANCE. Louis XVI, 1774-1793. Louis d'or au buste nu, 1789 D. Lyon. Different Bee. Mature undraped bust l. Rv. Twin shields of France-Navarre. Nicely struck with ample lustre on the obverse. Reverse adjustments. Virtually as struck. Choice About Uncirculated."
