This specimen was lot 611 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1789-A. Louis XVI (1774-92). NGC MS-62. Without adjustment marks and with strong luster." This is a scarce issue from the Paris mint. The years 1786-87 are common as the mints melted down and reminted old tenor gold, but the later dates (1788-92) are much scarcer.

Recorded mintage: 246,214.

Specification: 7.65 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, designed by Benjamin Duvivier.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 881, Dr/2 № 605, Fr-475, KM-591.1, Gad-361, Dupl-1707, DFW-539.
