Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73064

This specimen was lot 73064 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1789-H. La Rochelle Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS AU-58. Free from any cleaning or adjustment marks, this handsome near-Mint crown displays lovely gray surfaces with abundant luster and vibrant iridescence along the rims. A wholesome piece that is sure to appeal to collectors." This product of the La Rochelle mint is somewhat scarce.

Recorded mintage: "assez peu".

Specification: 29.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39 mm diameter.
