Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71030

This specimen was lot 71030 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. 1/2 Ecu, 1790-MA. Marseille Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. Though some cleaning is observed, this minor offers some deep and alluring color taking hold along with a RARE and lesser-encountered status. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Claude Silberstein in Paris in September 1961)." This type was struck 1774-92 but this is the only date from Marseille.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 0.917 fine silver, 14.74 g, 30.5 mm diameter, lettered edge.
