Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 23083

This specimen was lot 23083 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $9,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 150 Yuan, 1983. Lunar Series, Year of the Pig. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. An ever-popular porcine issue, this tremendous example resides at the precipice of perfection, dazzling with staggering brilliance in the fields and tremendous frosting upon the devices." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Pig was accompanied by a silver ten yuan (KM 73) and silver fifty yuan.

Specification: 8 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.235 troy oz AGW.
