China 1983 100 yuan KM-80
This specimen was lot 2132 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,501 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"CHINA, 100 Yuan 1987, Shenyang Mint. Marco Polo. Polierte Platte, Im Originaletui mit Zertifikat, Kupferfleck, Choice Proof. In original box with certificate. Copper spot."
The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. Marco Polo also appeared on KM 65, KM 78 and KM 79. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. Another 100 yuan for 1983 is KM 72 (1 oz gold panda).
