China 1984 150 yuan KM-94
This specimen was lot 23084 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $8,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 150 Yuan, 1984. Lunar Series, Year of the Rat. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo. Always popular and whimsical type on account of the rat attempting to surmount a gourd, this specimen, evocative of fall, radiates with intense mirrored brilliance and an almost matte-like nature to the devices' frosting." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Pig was accompanied by a silver ten yuan (KM 93) and silver fifty yuan.
