Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72651

This specimen was lot 72651 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 50 Yuan, 1984. Panda Series. NGC MS-65. An enticing Gem from near the beginning of the Panda series, this gleaming example yields vibrant details and charming appeal throughout." The fifty yuan was used for the half ounce gold panda starting in 1983, with a different reverse for each year. The one ounce panda was one hundred yuan.

Recorded mintage: 20,057.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW.
