Sincona sale 77, lot 2093

This specimen was lot 2093 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 900 CHF (about US$1,093 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA | Volksrepublik. 150 Yuan 1985. Jahr des Ochsen.Year of the ox. Nur 5'000 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. (people's republic of China, Only 5,000 pieces struck. Choice Proof.)"

After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Ox was accompanied by a silver ten yuan (KM 119) and silver fifty yuan.

Recorded mintage: est. 16,000 proofs.

Specification: 8 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.2359 troy oz AGW.
