Sincona sale 46, lot 1273

This specimen was lot 1273 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,050 CHF (about US$1,260 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA, Volksrepublik, 10 Yuan 1985. 30-Jahrfeier des Status von Sinkiang als autonome Region. Selten. Nur 1400 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. FDC. In Originalverschweissung. (people's republic of China, ten yuan of 1985, thirtieth anniversary of the autonomous region of Sinkiang. Rare, Only 1400 pieces struck, Choice Proof, in Original plastic-holder.)"

This is a very early NCLT from the communist regime in China. At the beginning, there was little market in China for these and they were not popular in the United States, so the mintages were low. This one honors the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of the autonomous region of Sinkiang, a largely Muslim region of China.

Recorded mintage: 1,400.

Specification: 34.56 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 128.
