This specimen was lot 3575 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €480 (about US$647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl I. 1735-1780. 5 Taler 1747, Braunschweig. GOLD. Berieben, sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I, 1735-80, five thaler of 1747, Brunswick mint. Polished, very fine.)"
This type is listed for 1742-75 but is rare despite the long run of production. The duke also struck 2½ (Fr-715) and ten thaler gold pieces.
