Sincona sale 23, lot 2119

This specimen was lot 2119 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Herzogtum Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, Karl I. 1735-1780 2 1/2 Taler 1750. Braunschweig. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I (1735-80), 2½ thaler of 1750, Brunswick mint. Very fine.)"

This type is listed for 1742-75 but is rare despite the long run of production. The duke also struck five (Fr-714) and ten thaler gold pieces.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.32 g, 0.900 fine gold, .096 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.26 g.
