This specimen was lot 626 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,702.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1750. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I (1735-80). NGC MS-63. Highest certified example. Commemorating the Bleifield Mine. Attractive toning. Nicely struck and very attractive. From the Rockaway Collection." This is one of a series of mining thalers issued in the mid eighteenth century. This type was also minted in 1752. A similar thaler, honoring the same mine, is also known from Hannover (Dav-2102).
