This specimen was lot 627 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1752. Karl I (1735-80). NGC MS-63. Finest certified. Commemorating the Rainbow Mine. Very attractive iridescent toning with golden highlights. From the Rockaway Collection." This is one of a series of mining thalers issued in the mid eighteenth century.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
