Sincona sale 22, lot 1140

This specimen was lot 1140 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,261 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Wolfenbüttel, Herzogtum, Karl I. 1735-1780 Taler 1752. Zellerfeld Ausbeute der Grube König Carl. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I (1735-80), Zellerfeld mint, for the king Carl mine, choice extremely fine.)"

This is one of a series of mining thalers issued in the mid eighteenth century.
