Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1752-IBH 4 mariengroschen KM-864
This specimen was lot 73269 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 4 Mariengroschen, 1752-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Karl I. PCGS MS-62. Steely gray and with some darker hues nearer the edges, this Mint State example undoubtedly offers much in the way of eye appeal. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This denomination was one-ninth of a thaler or one sixth gulden. This type was struck 1735-80 and is common. This denomination was also struck with a leaping stallion reverse (KM 894); those are slightly scarcer. Mintmaster IBH appears 1739-62.
