Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1747-EK 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 5543 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €500 (about US$696 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl I. 1735-1780. 1/2 Albertustaler 1747, Braunschweig. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 58, Osnabrück 2000, Nr. 1394. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Charles I, 1735-80, half Albertus thaler of 1747, Brunswick mint. Very scarce in this quality, choice example, about uncirculated.)"
This half thaler of 1747-48 was struck to a slightly different weight standard than that of the convention thaler (28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver). It was not a success and was not repeated.
