from the Stack's Bowers September 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74475

This specimen was lot 74475 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1704. Zellerfeld Mint. Anton Ulrich. PCGS AU-55. This specimen offers dove-grey surfaces with hints of luster and golden toning in the peripheries. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1704-05 along with KM 615, which has a leaping stallion reverse, and KM 559, which included the name of Rudolf August, who died in 1704. Anton Ulrich ruled alone after his brother's death.
