This specimen was lot 73499 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. Taler, 1704-RB. Zellerfeld Mint. Anton Ulrich. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. A charming example of this two year type; a good strike coupled with light argent surfaces which are augmented by splashes of gold toning. A small area of weakness is noted on the reverse - the result of the boldly rendered Wild Man on the obverse. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection. Ex: Kuenker auction 59, lot #1730 (with ticket)." We note a bewildering array of thalers struck in 1704, the result of the deaths of duke Rudolf August and Anton Ulrich's wife Elisabeth Juliane: KM 667, KM 668, KM 669, KM 670 (shown here), KM 671, KM 672 and KM A637.
