Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1704-HCH 1/24 thaler
This specimen was lot 552 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €460 (about US$620 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Anton Ulrich, 1704-1714. 1/24 Taler 1704, Braunschweig, auf den Tod seiner Gemahlin Elisabeth Juliane von Holstein-Norburg. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 64. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Anton Ulrich, 1704-14, 1/24th thaler of 1704, Brunswick mint, on the death of the duke's wife, Elisabeth Juliane von Holstein-Norburg, in NGC-64 holder. Scarce, especially in this quality, about uncirculated.)"
The SCWC records this type was weighing 2.3 g, silver, 19.6 mm diameter, which seems a little heavy as 29 g/24 = 1.208 g, so the coin is probably billon. This commemorative is accompanied by a 1/12 thaler (KM 661), thaler (Dav-2122) and ducat (Fr-659).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: Welter 2345, KM 657.
