This specimen was lot 3648 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1704-RB. Rudolf August & Anton Ulrich, Joint Rulers (1685-1704). NGC AU-58. Struck shortly after Anton Ulrich's restoration to joint rule. A handsome wildman with good definition to hair crown and foreground. Some areas of weakness near periphery. Old envelope toning with some cobalt highlights. From the Rockaway Collection." This type of 1701-04 is fairly common but the "wild man" design is always popular.
