Künker sale 354, lot 5507

This specimen was lot 5507 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,100 (about US$2,923 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Rudolf August und Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704. Reichstaler 1704, Braunschweig, auf den Tod von Rudolf August am 26. Januar. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Slg. Dr. Werner Koch, Teil 1, Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 273, Frankfurt/Main 1970, Nr. 235. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Rudolf August and Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704, thaler of 1704, Brunswick mint, on the death of Rudolf August on January 26. Scarce in this quality, very attractive example with handsome patina, minor scratches, extremely fine.)"

On the death of the duke in 1704, an extensive series of commemoratives was struck, ranging from a two pfennig to a ducat.
