Künker sale 354, lot 5510

This specimen was lot 5510 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,322 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Rudolf August und Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704. 1/4 Reichstaler 1704, Zellerfeld, auf den Tod von Rudolf August am 26. Januar. R Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 46, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1945. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Rudolf August and Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704, quarter thaler of 1704, Zellerfeld mint, on the death of Rudolf August on January 26. Rare, fine patina, about extremely fine.)"

On the death of the duke in 1704, an extensive series of commemoratives was struck, ranging from a two pfennig to a ducat. Another quarter thaler exists (KM 663) showing the duke's bust.
