Künker sale 293, lot 553

This specimen was lot 553 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €260 (about US$351 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM Anton Ulrich, 1704-1714. Reichstaler 1709, Zellerfeld. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Anton Ulrich, 1704-14, thaler of 1709, Zellerfeld mint, very fine.)"

This fairly common type was struck 1705-11, all with mintmaster RB. Many other "wild man" thalers exist from this state and Brunswick-Luneburg.
