This specimen was lot 73507 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 12 Mariengroschen (1/3 Taler), 1711-C. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: three stars (and "C"). Anton Ulrich. PCGS AU-53. A most interesting variety with the "C" applied on top of the middle reverse star; Issues were struck with both three stars and the "C" in 1711; this example combines them both. This coin offers champagne and gold toning on medium gray surfaces. Decently struck with some shadowing on the reverse, and only light wear. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1705-11 and is fairly common. Twelve mariengroschen made one third of a thaler or half a gulden. This is the only date with mintmaster "C".

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-684; Welter-2314.
