This specimen was lot 495 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €320 (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. Reichstaler 1643, Zellerfeld. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, thaler of 1643, Zellerfeld mint. Handsome patina, very fine.)"
This type of 1639-48 is not listed as rare. The photo in the SCWC shows Dav-6347, not this coin. Numerous "wild man" thalers exist from this state.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
