Sincona sale 22, lot 1110

This specimen was lot 1110 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,005 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Wolfenbüttel, Herzogtum, August der Jüngere, 1635-1666 Taler 1643. Zellerfeld 5. Glockentaler. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger (1635-66), fifth bell thaler of 1643, Zellerfeld mint, very fine to extremely fine)"

The year 1643 saw the issue of nine different "bell" thalers (Dav-6363, -6364, -6366, -6366A, -6366B, -6371, -6373, -6374, -6375, -6369) in Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, as well as more conventional thalers (Dav-6338, -6347, -6370, -6372).
