This specimen was lot 37 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €4,600 (about US$5,968 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG, Johann Friedrich, 1665-1679. Löser zu 2 Reichstalern 1677, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. Ohne Wertpunze; Münzmeister Heinrich Bonhorst. Gekröntes Monogramm, umher Lorbeerkranz, umgeben von 14 kleinen, gekrönten Wappen auf Palmzweigen//Roß springt l. darüber hält eine aus Wolken kommende Hand einen Lorbeerkranz, unten Bergwerkslandschaft und Grubenquerschnitt mit arbeitenden Bergmännern, r. großes Wasserrad. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, kl. Randfehler, sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Dr. Ahlers, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 39, Osnabrück 1997, Nr. 3760. In 1677, the duke issued an extensive series of thalers and multiple thalers to honor his silver mines in the Harz that provided the bullion for these coins. This type also comes with mintmaster RB. His descendants became electors of Hannover and then kings of Great Britain.
