Heritage sale 3015, lot 25322

This specimen was lot 25322 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $632.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1875Go-FR, MS64 NGC, a choice coin with full mint luster and just a few tiny contact marks." We hasten to assure collectors contemplating this series that this date from the Guanajuato mint normally sells for a fraction of the price realized above. The Guanajuato mint issued this type 1825-97 and most dates are readily available. Overdates 1875/3 and 1875/6 are noted. Assayer FR is listed for 1870-78.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
