Mexico 1887-Do C 10 centavos

This specimen is the first reasonably available date of a series struck 1878-95 at the Durango mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. This specimen was lot 8932 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Durango. 10 Centavos, 1887-DoC. NGC MS-64."

Specification: 2.71 g, 0.903 fine silver, .078 troy oz ASW.
