SB121-24222r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24222 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1843-Do RM/RL. Durango Mint. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. A wholesome and evenly worn coin with pleasing gray toning with hints of iridescence." Tho listed as common in the SCWC, no Durango two reales is readily obtainable. This date is known only with the RM/RL overassayer. RM operated 1830-48 and RL 1824-29, so this obverse die was made from an old hub.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-374.4.
