Denmark SB520-70096r.jpg

This specimen was lot 70096 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Gluckstadt. 8 Skilling, 1695. Christian V. NGC MS-63. Extremely choice and lustrous, this brilliant, untoned example stands as the only specimen of the type in the NGC census. Incredibly alluring and attractive." Schleswig-Holstein has been contested between Germany and Denmark since the Middle Ages. In the seventeenth century, the area was fragmented between several ducal lines and the bishop of Lubeck. This type was struck 1694-97 by the king of Denmark and is not rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.06 g, 0.562 fine silver, 22.4 mm diameter.
