The first specimen shown is an 1886MoM balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. It was lot 1643 in Goldberg sale ___. The second specimen was lot 9211 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1886/5-MoM. Sharply struck. Somewhat prooflike and very attractive. NGC MS-63.” The third specimen was lot 9212 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $632.50. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1886-MoM. Sharply struck. Somewhat prooflike and very attractive. NGC MS-63.” The fourth specimen was lot 42717 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1886-Mo M. Mexico City Mint. PCGS AU-55." This issue from Mexico City is among the more available dates, though the catalog gives it a 50% premium over the type coin. However, specimens in the exalted condition shown above are very rare and priced accordingly. Other mints include Hermosillo, Zacatecas, Durango, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Alamos and Potosi.

An overdate, 1886/5, is recorded for the year.
