This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1871-72, 1883-89 at the Chihuahua mint. The SCWC also records an 1887/6 overdate but awards it no premium. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 26,000.

Catalog reference: KM 406.1.
