Mexico 1844/33-Do RM 1/2 escudo

This specimen was lot 1349 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,150. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"MEXICO. Republic. ½ Escudo, 1844/33 Do RM. Durango. Hand inscribing law book with quill and Liberty Cap. Rv. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. A very rare issue in all grades, the present example has a boldly repunched date, strong definition on the hand and law book and only the eagle's chest shows minor softness in the strike although the feathers are all outlined. Clean surfaces, pleasing yellow-gold color throughout. About Uncirculated."
