This specimen was lot 11138 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1092. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence MVA/1811. 8 Reales, 1811. MVA/1811 countermark on a cast silver 1809-MoHJ 8 Reales (KM-110). Typical crude manufacture. Toned. Both host coin and countermark VERY FINE." The Monclova countermark is known on several different cast eight reales produced during the War of Independence. Most are dated 1812 and all are scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 27.07 grams, .896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
