This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is common. Assayer JS is recorded for 1876-86; for 1882, an 1882/1 overdate is noted along with "straight J" and "full J" varieties. This specimen was lot 6467 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 8 Reales, 1882-JS. Die style of 1845-1882. Full J. Light toning. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."

Recorded mintage: 2,485,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
