This specimen was lot 4866 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Konv.-Taler 1775 IC - FA, Wien. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines sächsischen Naturwissenschaftlers. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, convention thaler of 1775, Vienna mint. Handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1772-79 and is common. Like all Maria Theresia thalers minted after 1765, the queen is depicted wearing a widow's veil, noting the death of her husband Francis of Lorraine. The convention thaler, adopted in the 1750's, was 28.06 g, 0.833 fine, whereas earlier types were 28.82 g, 0.875 fine.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, lettered edge, this specimen 27,97 g.
