photo courtesy Ponterio & Associates, lot 6257

The first specimen was lot 6256 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $385.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Durango. 8 Reales, 1833/2-RM. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." The second specimen was lot 6257 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $207. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Durango. 8 Reales, 1833-RM/L. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." The Durango mint struck eight reales 1824-95 and this early date is one of the first readily available dates. The both regular date and 1833/2 overdate are recorded and shown here; the overdate obtains only a slight premium in the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 377.4, DP-Do10.
